An advance look at some of Terratopia's Music - Part 2

Happy Saturday everybody!

We've got some more music here.  First up - Illusion of TIme, our theme for the Forest of Illusion:

The forest gets its name from the many magical tricks it seems to play on visitors, almost as though it were alive. The priests of the Sun and Moon say that the woods used to house a great spirit of nature: a tree, sworn to the Sun God and that the magic in the glades is there to keep it safe from defilement. You've heard tell that time itself winds backwards and moves in unpredictable ways in certain, darker regions of the forest.

Stephen, one of our composers, had this to say about this track - "This track is one of my favorites. It has a mysterious quality that really draws the listener in. It’s as if something important lies deeper in the forest, just out of sight behind the next tree. Every time we get closer to it, however, things shift and we find ourselves lost and even more eager to see what it is that draws us in. When we composed this track, we drew inspiration from some of the great Zelda music of our childhoods to try and create a sense of a wondrous world full of secrets."

And finally our main theme - Terratopia.  You might recognize this music from our announce trailer.  Interesting fact: this theme, created entirely within the pulp music editor, came first.  For our announce trailer we decided to spruce it up a bit with a slightly fuller synth but we love the original just as much.

Eva, one of our composers, had this to say about this track - "I would argue that this was the most challenging piece to work on. We each had a number of ideas that worked (e.g. they were musically sound), but didn’t capture the “it” factor we were looking for. We wanted to channel the feeling of adventure brought on by the title screen of any number of RPG classics — to know what you’re getting into even before pressing start. It’s tough to point to just one game that served as inspiration, but Shining Force II and Chrono Trigger come to mind."
